Lightweight & Cost-Effective

EPS Foam (Expanded Polystyrene)

The lightest and most cost-effective foam option - EPS absorbs high-impact shock effectively for one-time shipments of fragile goods. Common in consumer electronics, appliances, and any application where lightweight protection is the priority.

Weight Lightest Option
Best For Single-Use Shipments
Impact High Shock Absorption
Cell Structure
Expanded (open bead) - extremely lightweight, high void content
Weight
0.9–2.0 lb/ftΒ³ - lightest foam packaging material available
Shock Absorption
Excellent for single impacts - crushes to absorb energy on first hit
Reusability
Low - EPS does not recover after significant compression
Cut Method
CNC routed or hot-wire cut - both produce clean edges
Moisture Resistance
Moderate - absorbs some moisture over time in humid environments
Cost
Lowest cost per cubic foot of any foam material we carry
Common Applications
Consumer electronics, appliances, fragile goods shipping
Density Firmness Best For
0.9 lb/ftΒ³ Very Light Light fragile items, thermal insulation
1.5 lb/ftΒ³ Standard Consumer electronics, most single-use applications
2.0 lb/ftΒ³ Dense Heavier fragile goods, corner protection

Consumer Electronics

TVs, monitors, and appliances that ship once from factory to consumer.

Fragile Goods Shipping

Glassware, ceramics, and decorative items needing high impact protection.

Appliance Packaging

Washer/dryer, refrigerator, and large appliance corner and edge protection.

Cold Chain Packaging

EPS provides excellent thermal insulation for temperature-sensitive shipments.

End-Cap Protection

Molded or CNC-cut end caps protecting product corners from drop impacts.

Cost-Sensitive Programs

High-volume applications where low cost per unit is the primary driver.

How APG Works With EPS Foam (Expanded Polystyrene)

EPS is the right choice when cost and weight are the priorities and the packaging is designed for a single trip. For repeat-use or multi-cycle applications, PE is a better fit. We CNC-cut EPS to the same tolerances as all other foam grades.
