Corrugated packaging performance depends heavily on how the flutes are oriented relative to the load. We engineer flute direction to maximize stacking strength, edge crush resistance, or specific load-bearing needs.
What It Is
Corrugated board is not isotropic - it performs very differently depending on which direction the flutes run relative to the load direction. Flutes running vertically provide maximum column stacking strength. Flutes running horizontally provide better resistance to lateral compression and top-load crushing on long boxes. Most commodity box manufacturers don't consider this. We do, and it meaningfully improves packaging performance without changing the board specification.
