Polyurethane (PU) Foam
Open-cell, soft, and flexible - PU foam conforms to irregular shapes and provides excellent vibration dampening. Used for surface protection, void fill lining, and applications where the foam needs to adapt to the product rather than hold a fixed shape.
Properties
Key physical and performance characteristics of this foam grade.
Density Options
Choose the right density based on product weight, fragility, and retention requirements.
| Density | Firmness | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2β1.8 lb/ftΒ³ | Ultra-Soft | Delicate surface protection, void fill |
| 2.0β3.0 lb/ftΒ³ | Soft-Medium | Vibration dampening, general lining |
| 4.0β6.0 lb/ftΒ³ | Medium-Firm | Support cushioning, structural lining |
When to Use It
Industries and use cases where this foam type performs best.
Surface Protection Lining
Box lining for products with polished or painted surfaces sensitive to contact.
Vibration Isolation
Equipment shipped via truck or air requiring continuous vibration dampening.
Irregular Shape Cushioning
Complex product geometries that require foam to conform rather than be precisely cut.
Electronic Equipment Lining
Soft foam lining in transit cases for fragile test equipment and instruments.
Void Fill Padding
Filling gaps around product in oversized corrugated boxes to prevent shift.
Furniture & Fixture Wrapping
Foam sheets used to wrap surfaces during transport and installation.
How APG Works With Polyurethane (PU) Foam
PU foam is specified when the product geometry is irregular, when continuous vibration is the threat (not impact), or when a soft non-marring contact surface is needed. It pairs well with a rigid PE or EVA outer layer in multi-layer assemblies.
